MDF Doll House

My daughter is really getting into Barbies this year. So her Christmas present is going to be a doll house. I did a bunch of research and found several, but closer inspection showed that they are built cheap and will not last. Average price is about $150 so I figure I can beat that price and build something that will last much longer. Plus this gives me something to do other than sit on the computer and play BF3 all weekend long.

After a week of design, dimension finding,  construction, and a ton of sawdust, The new Barbie Dream House is starting to take shape :

The final project will be about 3 feet tall by 3 feet wide and 18 inches deep.

Custom router Plate

Before I could begin my next project, I needed to fabricate a router table. You can buy these for a couple hundred bucks, But a custom built one will be more sturdy and last longer. Plus it will be built to my specs and probably cost less.

I started with a piece of 0.060″ aluminum and created a base plate to attach the router. This can then be flipped and attached to a table top to expose the router bit. You need to countersink the entire plate area so that your work piece will float across the table top smoothly. The makes the router much more versatile for small pieces and easier to use.

Next upgrade will be some channels with T-nuts for an adjustable fence.
